Which is better: an “Arranged” marriage or a “Love” marriage?

I am a certified Relationship Counsellor.

Neither of them are better than the other. The only difference between the two is the timing of the “legalized” commitment (i.e. marriage) in the relationship.

• Arranged Marriage: The “legalized” commitment is AT the beginning of the relationship
• Love Marriage: The “legalized” commitment is anytime AFTER the beginning of the relationship

What is more important for any relationship (where it is through arranged marriage or love marriage) is:

• Putting in efforts to make the relationship work
• Respect for your partner
• VERY IMPORTANT: Ensuring expectations from each other are being met.

It is important to note that “the romantic feelings” subside once you start living together with your partner under the same roof and it is more about making your marriage “functional” and “lasting”.

The modern day society is very conducive to “breaking relationships easily” and to keep and maintain a relationship requires a lot of efforts.

In my experience, I see more love marriages go through divorces, than arranged marriages. But it doesn’t mean that arrange marriages are divorce-proof.

Dealing directly with your partner will often create more friction and aggravate the problem while guidance and intervention from family/friends comes with a lot of “affinity” bias (favoring your relative or family member more).
